Team Mesa Adaptive Program

These programs are designed for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Adaptive Sports

Basketball 
Get off the couch and "Hoop" it up with Team Mesa! Athletes will learn the fundamentals of basketball, develop knowledge of the game while socializing with their peers.
Basketball promotes physical fitness and good sportsmanship.
Athletes who want to compete in Special Olympics area and state competitions must have a current Special Olympics physical.
 
Adult Basketball
Ages 16 and up 

Practices are held
Mondays at Jefferson Gym located at 120 S. Jefferson
Wednesdays at Webster Gym located at 202 N. Sycamore
6:00pm-7:30pm
After the first week, practice times may change once teams are formed.
Athletes must attend both nights of practice
 January 7- March 2


Junior Basketball
Ages 6-15

Practices are held on Mondays at Stapley Junior High-3250 E. Hermosa Vista Dr., 
6:00pm-7:00pm
January 7-March 2

 
Adaptive Cheerleading
Catch the spirit and be part of the Mesa Cheer Team! Athletes will learn dance moves and cheers while socializing with their peers.
Athletes who want to compete in the Special Olympics area and state games must have a current Special Olympics physical on file.
Practices are held on Tuesdays at Eagles Community Center located at 848 E. Broadway Rd.
6:30pm-7:30pm
Ages 6 and up
January 8- March 2

 

Recreational Bowling
"Strike" up some fun and be part of Team Mesa! Athletes learn bowling etiquette and develop skills while socializing with their peers.
Practices are held on Wednesdays at Mesa AMF located at 2115 E. Southern Ave.
3:30pm-5:30pm
Ages 16 and up
January 9- May 29


Unified Bowling
Bowlers are encouraged to have a peer partner accompany them each Saturday.
Practices are held on Saturdays at Mesa AMF located at 2115 E. Southern Ave.
12:30-3:00pm
Ages 8 and up
January 5- May 18


Dragon Boat
Individuals will train with a certified Dragon Boat instructor to prepare for the Dragon Boat Festival on March 30 and 31.
Practices are held on Tuesdays at Tempe Towne Lake Marina located at 550 E. Tempe Town Lake.
Water safety training may be required for new participants. Contact Josh Underwood prior to registering if new to program.

Adaptive Track and Field
Sprint to the finish line with Team Mesa! Track and Field promotes physical fitness and good sportsmanship while socializing with their peers!
Athletes wanting to compete in Special Olympics area and state competitions must have a current Special Olympics physical on file.  
East Practices are held on Thursdays at Skyline High School located at 845 S. Crismon Rd., Mesa
 5:30pm-7:00pm
Ages 6 and up
February 7- May 4

West practices are held on Thursdays at Mesa High School located at 1630 E. Southern Ave, Mesa
Juniors Ages 6-15 from 5:30pm-6:30pm
Adults ages 16 and up 6:30pm-8:00pm
February 7- May 4

 

   TGIF Adaptive Social Program (ages 16 +) 

Are you looking for something fun to do or do you just want to socialize with your friends? 
Come join the TGIF Social Club........it's where the fun is at! For ages 16 and older.
Participants must be able to function in a large group setting within the community.
